Collin Chee a former model and TV artiste (Star Search 1993/94 finalist) has set up a durian business (Spikes of Love) together with his two sons, Cedrique and Cepheaus.
When Collin was younger, there were 2 special occasions his Mom put a lot of attention into.
There was the Chinese New Year. The whole family got to buy new clothes and enjoy delicious Chinese delicacies prepared by my Mom.
The other one was the durian season.
Durians costed 30 to 40 cents per kilogram back then, and he came from a family with a less-than-average financial background. Buying durians was a luxury to him. It didn’t help that they were cheated many times, and given durian that was unripe, wet, and inedible.
Despite the difficulties that came with buying durians, his Mom knew how much he loved them and worked hard so he could enjoy his durian season. She rallied the neighbours who liked durian too, and they would all chip in to get a good basket of durians.
He remember these moments like it was yesterday – whenever the ‘Durian Uncle’ arrived at his home, everyone gathered in a circle around the durian basket. They enjoyed the durians, the conversations, and the laughter.
Durians united them. People of different races and religions came together, and their differences were put aside. They were one happy people.
To him, the durian is the only fruit that can bring people together like that. Eating durian, beyond its taste, is about bonding and friendship.
Spikes Of Love was founded to recreate such moments of bliss, for you and your loved ones.
Ultimately, he see durians as a way to give and receive blessings. Through his durian events and products, he hope to share these blessings with you.
Come and give him your support
